Postgraduate Program in Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience (Under Consideration)

Students should complete two research practica in different labs during their first year in the program. These practica can be method- or content-based and students may continue to work in their primary lab while conducting a practicum in a different lab.

Courses

Students must complete the following required courses:

  • First Year Seminar
  • Principles of Cognitive Neuroscience
  • Foundations of Cognitive Psychology
  • Neural Methods Include:
    Event-related potentials (ERPs)
    Peripheral psychophysiology (e.g., galvanic skin response)
    Volumetric MRI
    Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI)
    Functional MRI (fMRI)
    Functional near-infrared spectroscopy
    Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)

Two additional courses selected from:

  • Social Behavior and Personality
  • Adult Psychopathology
  • Advanced Cognitive Development
  • Foundations of Behavioral and Computational Neuroscience

One Research Method or Statistics course. Sample courses include:

  • Statistics
  • Applied correlation and regression
  • Applied structural equation modeling

Additional Requirements

  • PhD candidates need pass a Qualifying Examination (QE).
  • PhD candidates’ performances need be accessed by annual PhD Advisory Committee meeting.
  • Students must serve as teaching assistant for one course.

Postgraduate Program in Neuroscience (Under Consideration)

Neuroscience is a broad, interdisciplinary area of study that spans numerous methodological approaches and scholarly topics. Students are encouraged to sample widely from among CCBS’s many neuroscience-related course offerings so that they cultivate a diverse, informed perspective on the field as a whole.
