Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR) focuses on research on computational algorithms, vision and pattern recognition, natural language processing (NLP), human-computer communication, autonomous driving and intelligent robotics, which play a vital role in the development of Macao’s smart city. UM established the Joint Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics with the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and further developed the UM branch of the national Super Intelligent Computing Centre in Hengqin. CAIR’s core research areas include the following five main research directions:

AI for Metaverse

AI for Portuguese Business

AI for Health

AI for Digital Entertainment

AI Robotics

AI for Metaverse

CAIR develops the new Metaverse core theory and principles for the interdisciplinary technology, and promotes the further scientific research achievements and industry products of Metaverse technology in the areas like smart tourism, intelligent transportation, autonomous driving, and smart education.

AI for Portuguese Business

To cooperate with Community of Portuguese Language Countries along “One belt, One Road”, CAIR assists professionals in handling Chinese-Portuguese-English translation tasks through conducting research on Portuguese business such as UM-CAT platform.

AI for Health

CAIR deploys AI system to better mine medicine data, as well as analyze medical image and integrate medical treatments with smart diagnosing and auxiliary learning system.

AI for Digital Entertainment

CAIR constructs the intelligent mechanism in human behavior analysis and depression analysis, multimedia-based entertainment and data security and GDPR.

AI Robotics

Artificial intelligence gives robots a computer vision to navigate, sense, calculate their reaction and learns to perform tasks from humans through machine learning.
