The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of the University of Macau (UM), the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (SKL-IoTSC), and the Institute of Collaborative Innovation (ICI), together with the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Semiconductors of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, held the “5th International Conference on High-Performance Big Data and Intelligent Systems and the 3rd Macao Symposium on Cloud Computing and Intelligent Driving” from December 6th to 8th. The conferences focused on several hot topics, including high-performance computing technology, big data, intelligent technology, and their applications, attracting over 100 researchers and students from around the world, providing a platform for academic and technological innovation exchange.

The three-day conference was held at UM. According to Prof. Xu Cheng-Zhong, the chair of the conferences, who is also a chair professor of computer and information sciences and the dean of the FST, in the face of new trends in global technological development and industrial transformation, computing technology, big data, and intelligent technological innovations will empower various industries. This international conference brought together scholars from Mainland China and abroad to discuss various key technologies and research achievements, successfully facilitating collaborations among multiple universities and research institutes. Xu Cheng-Zhong hopes that the conference could provide a platform for in-depth communication among participants from around the world, allowing scholars to share their research findings and cutting-edge technologies, enabling students to have a better understanding of the development trends in High-Performance Computing, Big Data, the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, and other fields, and broadening their research perspectives. At the same time, it aims to strengthen academic research and discussions among scholars and promote the industrialization of academic achievements.

The conferences were sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society, with several international computer science experts serving as keynote speakers, including Prof. Roger Wattenhofer from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Prof. Xiang-Gen Xia from the University of Delaware, Prof. Jin Hai from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Prof. Xiaoming Fu from the University of Göttingen in Germany, and Prof Tomoyuki Yokota, Associate Professor from the University of Tokyo. Professors and Students from FST, SKL-IOTSC, and ICI at UM also participated in the conference.

In addition, the awards presentation ceremony for the Grand Prix Metaverse Autonomous Driving Challenge was held concurrently with the conferences. Mr. Iong Nin Fai, Interim Head of the Technology Application and Support Division of the Technology Department of the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT), and students from City University of Hong Kong and Pui Ching Middle School (Macau) also attended the ceremony. The champions of the university and secondary school teams were City University of Hong Kong and Pui Ching Middle School (Macau), respectively.
